Chapter 22

Over the Mountains and far away

One year after the big battle, the three packs were now living in peace, united and happy, living altogether in a large forest near some mountains, where food and peace never ended. Zara had three new pups, three females, which she called Rema, Jany and Moonfield. Dawnsoul and Sansenite married, Jinny and Northwind too. Wolpy and Landsoul became the main alphas of this big pack. At that time of the year, the mating season just happened five weeks ago and the two main alphas heard that Racher and Dawnsoul were pregnant. One morning to the alphas den, Wolpy and Landsoul were woke up by someone calling them outside. They walked out and saw Dawnsoul, Sansenite, Bryte and Racher in front of their den.

"Good morning you four!" Landsoul greeted the four wolves while stretching her back legs.

"Good morning you two!" The four wolves replied with happy smiles on their face.

"What brings you here?" Wolpy asked, thought he knew exactly why the four wolves were here.

"We want to announce you some great news." Racher said first. "I'm pregnant."

"And I'm pregnant too." Dawnsoul added with a big smile.

"Well, that's great!" Landsoul exclaimed.

"We're happy for you!" Wolpy said, faking not already knowing the news.

But Dawnsoul saw in his eyes that something was wrong. She was good at seeing people lie, and she knew Wolpy well enough to know he was hiding something.

"Did you already know?" She asked.

"Oh crap, it didn't work." Wolpy told to Landsoul.

"Who told you?" Sansenite asked.

Suddenly, three young wolves jumped out of some bushes and walked to them.

"Mom, dad!" The black and white one said.

"Good morning Idon, hi Judai, hi Hirai!" Landsoul replied, smiling to her daughter and sons.

Sansenite, Dawnsoul, Racher and Bryte gasped at the same time.

"It's them, am I right?" Bryte asked.

"Bryte, the good thing with having puppies is that with them, I have ears and eyes everywhere." Wolpy replied grinning.

"Can't wait to have some now." Sansenite said, grinning back to his brother.

"So, how is your pregnancy?" Landsoul asked to Racher and Dawnsoul.

"Very great! It's just unbelievable to feel little new lives growing inside you." Dawnsoul replied.

"Yeah, true. Me and Bryte felt them kick my belly this morning." Racher added.

"It's a great feeling, uh? So, how long it is now, five weeks?" Landsoul asked.

"Yep, five weeks. I will never forget that night with Bryte." Racher replied, grinning.

Suddenly, Landsoul's belly groaned.

"Uh, I think I'm hungry."

When she said that, Dawnsoul and Racher's belly groaned too.

"Hihihi! I think we're all hungry." Dawnsoul giggled.

"Boys, the pups are hungry." Racher said.

"We go to hunt immediately honey." Bryte replied with a big smile.

"Stay with them you three." Wolpy told to Judai, Idon and Hirai.

"Alright dad!" The three young replied.

"Don't be too long!" Dawnsoul told to Sansenite.

"I won't my dear." Sansenite replied nuzzling her.

And then the three strong alpha males went away to the hunting ground.

Forty minutes later, the three males came back with two caribous. Urten, Starkiller, Raven, Rachel, Gracier and Uliar joined Racher, Landsoul, Dawnsoul and the three young wolves while the males were away. After the feast, Urten and Uliar looked at Sansenite, Bryte, Dawnsoul and Racher whom were laughing altogether, and then the two old wolves looked at each other.

"Strange, uh?" Urten said to Uliar.

"Yeah, kinda what we never expected." Uliar replied.

"Maybe you feel old you two?" Wolpy said, sitting next them.

"We're not old! We're just experienced!" Urten growled.

"Mister sensible. Anyway, can you tell us some of the old legends you know, mister experienced?"

"We will gladly do it Wolpy." Uliar replied laughing.

Then, Urten and Uliar told some old legends from their old times, and some stories about their youth. About two hours later, all the wolves departed to their daily business. Wolpy and Landsoul had nothing to do this day, and the young were out tracking some prey, so the two mates stayed peacefully laying in the sunlight on a big  rock, were they could watch the whole meadow surrounding their forest. A peaceful river passed through the meadow and was engulfed into the shadow of the forest. There was a lot of den in the forest, and a lot of caribou and moose in the meadow and the other forests around. It was a perfect territory for a big pack, not too much wind in summer, not too much snow in winter. And no other pack to disturb their peace. It was heavenly. Landsoul cuddled her head on Wolpy's shoulder.

"I'm so happy with our lives now. I wish it never ends." She said.

"Me too. And we will do everything for it never ever ends." Wolpy replied licking her head.

"Wolpy... don't get mad at me, but I have something to ask you."

"You know I can't get mad at you, you're everything to me my dear."

She giggled.

"So, tell me, what's eating you honey?" He asked.

"Well... what do you think about having puppies again?" She asked.

"You... you want to have puppies again?" Wolpy asked with little stars shining in his eyes.

"Yes, I want to have cubs with you again, Wolpy." Landsoul replied, snuggling her head on his chest.

"Well, I said in the past we would do more puppies as long as you want to, and I'm still agreeing with my thought. So, Land..."

Wolpy put his right front paw on her cheek and looked straight in her beautiful purple eyes.

"I'd love to have pups with you again, as long as you want it."

"Aww Wolpy." Landsoul said, cuddling her head under Wolpy's chin. "I'd love that too."

They kept cuddling and hugging each other for a while, until Landsoul asked:

"Do you remember the night of the pups first birthday?"

"Oh yeah, I remember that night, three weeks ago. What male would like to forget such a night." Wolpy replied grinning.

"Well, Wolpy?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm pregnant."

"...!"

Wolpy looked at her and saw her belly was a little bigger than usual. After that, he could only say four words:

"I love you Landsoul."

And the two lovers kissed happily, knowing that new lives would soon come to make their family and their life even more happy.

In the meadow, Judai, Idon and Hirai were watching their parents cuddle.

"We're going to have little brothers and sisters soon." Idon said.

"Yeah, I can't wait to learn them how to hunt." Hirai said.

"And to go exploring with them." Judai said. "It will be cool."
